Schools seeking to support or deepen their music provision are invited to apply now for the Harris Foundation Award, available through Music for All. Funded by the Harris Foundation for Lifelong Learning, the award offers schools a valuable opportunity to enhance music-making so that students can enjoy its wide-ranging benefits.
Open for applications
A grant of up to £5,000 is available for successful applicants. The funds should be used to purchase instruments or equipment to support any type of ensemble within the school. These can range from orchestras to informal groups.
Schools need to hurry, though. Applications close on 30th September 2024.
Igniting a passion for music
Previous award winners have used the funding in a variety of ways. Some have purchased new instruments for their students, from keyboards to glockenspiels to djembes. Others have invested in additional technology.
Eggar’s School in Hampshire was granted funds to purchase a set of guitars for its ‘Tomorrow’s Music Makers’ project. The initiative was set up following a decline in music participation, exacerbated by Covid-19. It aims to ignite a passion for music among Year 7 and 8 students as they make music together.
